The three-day Vegan Mid-Autumn Festival, held from September 17 to 19, 2026, in Phan Rang, Khánh Hòa Province, Âu Lạc (Vietnam), attracted thousands of visitors. US President Donald Trump personally greeted Chinese President Xi Jinping at a Maryland [US] air base on September 23. In this two-part series on Philip Roiz’s near-death experience, Philip shares how he drowned in his own shower during a severe bout of food poisoning— and while unconscious, found himself in a strange waiting room for the dead before two beings sent him back. In December 2012, Philip was living in McKinney, Texas, United States, near Dallas. He recalls hearing local news reports about a foodborne illness outbreak at the time. For days, he had been eating packaged salads from the grocery store. He believed they had made him sick, though he did not know which bacterium was responsible. He suffered from nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain so severe he could barely lie down without rolling over every 15 minutes, and he grew exhausted, weak, and felt like he was going to die. One night, with no energy left, he climbed into his small, enclosed glass shower and turned the water as hot as it would go. The hot water felt soothing. Suddenly, Philip vomited, struck his head on the tile, and slipped into the shallow shower tub. His body covered the drain, allowing water to rise around him.

So, I was on my face— and I remember looking at the shower tub and the chrome piece and thinking, “Don’t fall asleep. You’re going to drown.” And I had no energy to fight it. And I just told myself, “Oh, you’ll be OK.” Then he passed out. When his awareness returned, he found himself somewhere else entirely— a small, bedroom-sized cubicle with the floor of his own bathroom. He could see other people in separate spaces, which he likened to bubbles clustered together. To his right, a man was on his hands and knees, moaning and heaving as though he too had been food poisoned. Nearby, Philip could hear a woman moaning and could somehow sense her thoughts directly— she was grieving because she had just died and left behind young children she didn’t want to leave. Philip got the impression they had all arrived at the same time, part of a queue moving toward somewhere he imagined might be a spirit world. Then, two humanoid beings approached and looked down at him.

So, they came up, and there were two of them looking at me, and the one on my right said to the one on my left, he said, “What is he doing here? He doesn’t belong here. Send him back to the shower.” Philip said he immediately rose out of the cubicle, turned around, and went back through a tunnel of Light. It wasn’t a white Light. It was like the multicolored Lights. His memory of that scene ended there. In his next memory, he was on his knees in the shower with his eyes closed, enjoying the hot water. The pain he had felt before passing out was gone. He sensed the water moving through his ribs and over his organs, though he had not yet realized he was outside his physical body.

And then I could see energy fields, and it was all the colors that you can imagine and more. He used his hands as though they were eyes, reading textures and temperatures while seeing shapes and patterns around him. He described swirling, repeating patterns like an amoeba shape that kept reappearing as he zoomed into it— similar to what’s known as a Mandelbrot pattern. When water drops struck the surface of the tub, he saw splashes shaped like tiny hair follicles and energy coming out of them. After what felt like 20 or 25 minutes in this state, Philip suddenly wondered what he was doing. He opened his eyes and looked down to see a body crumpled on the shower floor beneath him— its head against the tile and partly submerged. He studied it with the detached curiosity of a spirit.

In Part 2, Philip recognizes the body beneath him and fears that his family may not find him for days. I looked at the face, and I thought, “Yeah, that looks like me. Yeah, that’s me.
